Corcovado

Bones! després d'uns quants dies torno! Massa feina :S.

Hi! it's been a long time! too much work :S.

Well, today I'm gonna talk about my Corcovado trip. This is one of the most beautiful and impressionant parks of CR. This park is within the Osa peninsule, south-west of the country. To get there you need 10h bus from San José to la Palma (if you do the route that Paleah (from Canada) and me did). There are other entry sites, like the one in Bahía Drake, but it's more adventurous if you cross the park ;).

This was the route:

1) La Palma - Los Patos station: 13 Km, done by taxi.
2) Los Patos station - La Sirena station: 18 Km, walking.
3) La Sirena station - La Leona station - Carate: 18 Km, walking.

La Palma is small village with a soda, a pizzeria and a supermarket (well, minimarket) and 4 houses. There you can buy all the food you need for your trip, since once in the park it's not possible to buy anything, although La Sirena station you can have dinner for 8.5$. The only problem is that you need to book in advance...something that Paleah and me didn't do, hehehe. Actually, to get into the park you need a permit which is good to ask in advance...otherwise you have to wait like 1-3 days to get in. We were lucky and only had to wait 1 day (really lucky actually).

Well, the first night was in La Palma. Once there we knew about the permit so then we had to walk to another village near there to a lodge where they can get a fast permit for you...although they charge you 3$ (and they don't tell you in advance...). There we met a nice Gringo couple who felt sorry for us (eating cheese and bread all day, hehe), so they invited us to have lunch 8rice with shrimps, nicenice). This second night was under a tropical rain aaall night, very nice!. Next day we took a taxi to Los Patos station for 50$ total, this is the entrance station of the park. From there we started our solitary walk in the middle of the Corcovado "jungle". You can see all kind of animals: birds, frogs, snakes, monkeys, agutins (I don't the name in English, sorry), And the selvatic noise it's incredible! But also sweating like "pollos", I was droping one drop per second from my face I think. Not many mosquitoes, but a lot of ticks! Well, this first walking day took 18km and 7h (they told us that was fast, mainly people last like 10h). Actually at the end of the walk we were dying, we really wanted to arrive and have a shower and do nothing, hehe.
Next day we woke up at 4.30h to be able to cross the river before the tide was to high to cross...but smart us we crossed the river in the wrong place (of course), so the water reached our bellies...and the funniest thing is that once we were at that point a guide came with two tourists and crossed the river from the right point, just wetting their feet, joder, hehehehe, fantastic.
So we kept walking with our asses wet along the beach. In theory the second day is less tiring but for us it was the other way around, I supose because we were tired from last day...it was also hotter and the wet asses :D.
Finally we got to La Leona station, were we slept for one hour laying on the grass.
After our siesta we walk the last 3.5km to Carate, final destiny where you take the bus- pig's truck to Puerto Jiménez. But as lucky bastards we had been all the trip we were lucky again, hehe. A plane pilot told us he was coming back to San José with an empty plane so he offered us a trip for such a cheap price and in less than 2h (instead of a whole day) we were home! It was worth, for the price and the view of the park from the plane. I could not believe we had crossed that park!

Conclusion: you should go to this park if you have the oportunity. You can do the wild verison or the more relaxed one, which is the one from Bahía Drake. Both are nice!
