Mariposario / Butterfly garden

després de dies de no dir res torno a l'activitat.
Per aquí Costa Rica tot bé, fa dos dies vam tenir un temporal d'aquests tropicals, cosa que va deixar el nord del país incomunicat, i per tant no vaig poder anar a Liberia per fer una primera visita de la companyia amb la que farem el projecte, el qual explicaré un altre jour.

Avui hem anat amb la Rebeca, la companya de pis alemana, al Mariposario d'Alajuela (bé, Alajuela tampoc perquè queda a una 30' en bus d'allà). El lloc està bé però l'he trobat car pel que és, me l'esperava més gran, això si, per un dia d'aquests que no saps que fer i tens poc temps doncs és una bona opció.

Allà hem tingut una guia que ens ha explicat les diferents espècies, com es reprodueixen, com s'alimenten, els diferents tipus de larva, etc. És un centre que es dedica al cultiu de fafas (versió de dir papallones) i les envia arreu del món, inclosa Barcelona! Allà hi ha diferentes cuidadors, amb un dels quals he estat parlant, ha estat una bona xerrada. L'home es dedica a rescatar els ous que les fafes posen per les fulles del mariposario i els cultiven en unes caixes, per després deixar anar la papallona o bé posar la larva en una caixa cap a un nou destí, que tan pot ser un país diferent com un dels parcs de Costa Rica.

Una curiositat: en algunes larves veureu partícules com daurades o platejades, doncs bé, són metalls que ajuden a la larva a obtenir calor perquè es crien naturalment en zones més elevades.

Hi there,

after some days of inactivity here I go again.
In Costa Rica everything is fine, two days ago we had a tropical storm, which let the north of the country incommunicated, therefore I could not go to Liberia to have a first look at the company which I have to do the project with (which I will explain another day).

Today, together with Rebeca, my german roommate, we went to a Buttergly garden in Alajuela (well, not really Alajuela since it is 30' from there...). The place is nice but I found it expensive, I thought it would be bigger. But if you have a free day and not a lot of time to travel it is a good destination.

There we had a guide who told us things about the different species, how do they reproduce, how do they feed, different kind of larves, etc. It is a center that cultivates butterflies to send them later on to different places of the world, even Barcelona, and a lot in the NL! There they have different caretakers, I have been talking with one of them, it's been a nice talk. The guy takes de eggs that butterflies but around the garden to put them in a box where larves grow, and then send them to wherever they need to be sent: another country or a park in Costa Rica.

One curiosity: you will see some larves with golden or silver particles, this is to help the larva to keep warm, since they are usually in higher and colder places.
