Volcà Poás / Poás Volcano

avui ha tocat viatge al Poás (unes 2h des d'Heredia). Aquest és el volcà más visitat de Costa Rica, amb unes 250000 visites l'any. I això és nota en el preu de l'entrada (10$ per persona, excepte els ticos, que paguen menys de 2€ - avui jo he passat com a tica, hehe). El bus també és força més car que els altres busos públics, ja que en realitat fa com un servei privat: un viatge amunt - tot el dia parat - un viatge avall, costa uns 3€ des d'Alajuela.

Al marxar de casa m'havia fet un entrepà, pensant que faria gana després de pujar al cràter i que no hi hauria gran cosa per comprar...ilusa!. Al cràter s'hi arriba en 10 min, hehe. I abans passes per un edifici amb tot l'equipament que un guiri pugui necessitar: bars, records, lavabos, museu petit (on fan molta conscienciació medioambiental i on expliquen història del volcà).

El cràter del Poás: altura 2574 mts, diàmetre 1320 mts (un dels més grans del món), profunditat 300 mts, Tª mitjana 40ºC (depèn de l'època de l'any), pH=1 (no t'entren ganes de banyar-t'hi, hehe). Avui hem tingut sort, ja que el cràter estava descobert de boira, i es veia perfectament tot ell. Els núvols sempre vénen de la zona del Carib, de manera que sempre es veu un bosc a la part de dalt tot cobert (si tens sort doncs veus el Carib), i al cantó oposat la vegetació és menor ja que el sofre i companyia doncs n'eviten el creixament.

Després es pot caminar a la Laguna Botos, llaquet on hi havien viscut els indígenes Botos (d'aquí el nom), però que van fugir amb l'arribada dels españols, com sempre. Aquest llac té un diàmetre de 400 mts, profunditat de 14 mts, temperatura de 13-14º, i es troba a 2620 mts d'alçada. Només hi creixen microorganismes i algues.

La caminada continua cap a l'altre cantó i acabes de nou al pàrking.

Com que teniem molt de temps fins que el bus marxés de nou doncs hem tornat al cràter, però cap a les 2 del migdia s'ha tapat tot i ja no es veia res (mireu les fotos).

És una llàstima que no es pugui baixar al cràter o que no es pugui voltejar.

Valoració: si veniu de viatge a Costa Rica llogueu un "carro", aneu-hi d'hora (així tens temps de més coses i més probabilitats de veure el cràter) i després aneu a fer altres volcans. Ho he trobat car (per als guiris) per lo que és, però en fi, d'això viuen aquí, i així mantenen els parcs.
Una cosa que m'ha sorprès és la vegetació. No sabia que aquí també hi hagués ginesta (la tenia per ben mediterrànea) i en general la vegetació m'ha recordat al mediterrani, exceptuant fulles gegants (paraigües de pobra que li diuen), les bromelies i alguna altre cosa que per casa cantarien com una "almeja". De fauna se'n veu poca, massa turista, alguns cridant com si fos el mercat, en poca àrea.

De baixada hi ha tot de plantacions de cafè, de manera que es pot evitar la visita a Cafè Britt (guirigada).

Dijous cap a Tortuguero i Carib 4 dies...després cap al nord (si la pluja ho permet) per començar a treballar de valent!

Hi babies,

today visit to Poás volcano (like 2h from Heredia). This volcano is the most visited one in Costa Rica, with 250000 visits a year. And this you can notice with the ticket price (10$ per person, except for ticos, who pay less than 2€ - today I was a tica woman, hehe). The bus is also more expensive than other public buses. Actually it works like a private one since it only goes up and down once a day. Anyway it is less than 3€ from Alajuela.

When I was getting ready at home I prepared a sandwich thinking that after walking a lot to get to the crater I would be really hungry and that there would be nothing around there to buy food...gullible me! The crater it's 10 min from the bus, hehe. And before that you cross a big bulding with everything a tourists needs: bars, souvenirs, toilet, small museum (where they make a lot of environmental awareness and where they tell you history of the volcano).

The Poás' crater: height 2574 mts, diameter 1320 mts (one of the biggest in the world), depth 300 mts, Tª average 40ºC (it depence on the season), pH=1 (you don't feel like swimming in there, hehe). Today we've been lucky, since the crater was free of mist and you could see all of it. The clouds come always from the Caribean side, so the forrest above the crater is full of mist always (except the day you are lucky, then you see the Caribean sea), and the other side of the crater is where all the sulfur and company go, therefore the vegetation is less, since it dies :D.

Later on you can go to the Laguna Botos, small lake where Botos natives lived in (there comes the name from), but they had to run away when Spanish came, as always, hehe. This lake is 400 mts wide, 14 mts deep, 13-14º and it's located at 2620 mts. Only microorganisms and algaes grow in there.

The walk goes on to the other side and then you get back to the parking.

As we had a lot of time before the bus left we came back to the crater but around 2pm the mist came to visit the crater and nothing could be seen (check pics).

It's a shame you can not go down the crater or at least walk it around.

Evaluation: if you come to visit Costa Rica rent a car, go early (so you have time for other things and more chances to see crater) and then go to see other volcanoes. I found it expensive (for tourists) for what it is, but well, that's how they make money to live and keep the park in condition.
One thing I was surprised of was the vegetation. I didn't know they had broom (I thought it was only mediterranean) and in general the vegetation reminded me to the mediterranean area, except for the big leaves (called umbrella of the poor), bromelias (don't ask me the name in english please) and something else that I don't think would feet in the coast of the mediterranean sea. Animals you can't see a lot of them, too many tourists, some of them screaming like if it was the market, in a small area.

In the way back to Alajuela there are all those coffee plantations, so you don't need to go to visit Cafè Britt anymore (totally for tourists).

Thursday trip to Tortuguero and Caribean for 4 days...and then to the north (if the rain let us go) to start working hard!
