Per què "la lucha sin fin"? / Why "la lucha sin fin"?

José Figueres Ferrer, el pare de la democràcia sense armes, es definia a ell mateix com un filòsof granger. Aquest fill d'immigrants catalans cultivadors de cafè va nèixer a Alajuela el 1906. Va anar a estudiar enginyeria a EUA però va dedicar gran part del seu temps a estudiar filosofia política. Figueres va tornar a Costa Rica i muntar el seu cafetal el 1928. Inspirat per les seves lectures, organitzà als centenars de treballadors de la seva finca en una comunitat socialista utópica y anomenà a la seva finca "la lucha sin fin".
En la década de 1940, Figueres es va introduir en la política nacional criticant obertament al president Calderón. Per criticar al president a través d'un programa radiofònic, la polícia va entrar a l'emissora i detení Figueres. Se'l va acusar de feixista i se'l desterrar a Mèxic. En l'exili formà la Lliga Caribenya: un grup d'estudiants i agitadors demócrates de tota Amèrica Central que es van comprometre a derrocar les dictadures militars de la regió. Quan tornà a Costa Rica el van acompanyar 700 integrants de la Lliga amb qui organitzà una protesta contra el poder establert.
Les tropes governamentals van anar a la finca amb la intenció de detenir-lo i desarmar la Lliga, cosa que donar lloc a una guerra civil. El moment havia arribat: l'insignificant filòsof granger era ara un heroi. Figueres sortí victoriós de la breu disputa aprofità el moment per posar sobre la taula la seva visió de la democràcia social a Costa Rica. Quan va disoldre als militars, Figueres va cità a H.G.Wells, qui havia dit: "el futur de la humanitat no pot incloure a les forces armades".

Cadascú tá la seva pròpia lluita, moltes sense fi. La meva, amb aquest blog, és contra la incultura, la injustícia, la incompetència i la comoditat. És una lluita probablement sense fi però no està de menys intentar-ho. T'hi animes?

José Figueres Ferrer, father of the democracy free of weapons, defined himself as a philosopher farmer. This son of catalan immigrants, who cultivated coffee was born in Alajuela in 1906. He studied to become engineer in USA but spent a lot of his time in studying philosophy of politics. Figueres came back to Costa Rica and created his own coffee plantation in 1928. Inspired by his lectures, he organized the hundreds of workers of his plantation in an utopic socialist comunity named "la lucha sin fin" (the endless struggle).
In the decade of 1940, Figueres introduced himself into the national politics, critizing without reserve the president Calderón. For these critics via a radio program the police broke into the radio station and arrested him. He was acused of fascist and was exiled to Mexico. There he created the Caribean League: a group of students and democrats agitators from all over Central America. They promised to fight and overthrow the military dictatures around the region. When he returned back to Costa Rica 700 people of the League went with him and they organized a protest against the stablished system.
The troups of the government went to his plantation with the intention of arresting him and dissolve the League, thing that turned into a civil war. The moment had arrived: the insignificant philosopher farmer was a heroe. Figueres won the fight and took profit of the moment to put on the table his own vision of the social democracy in Costa Rica. When the militars were dissolved, Figueres quoted H.G.Wells, who had said: "the futur of the humanity can't include the armed forces".

Everyone of us has his/her own struggle, a lot of them without ending. Mine, with this blog, is against ignorance, injustice, incompetence and convinience. It is probably a struggle without ending but it is worth to try it. Are you in?
